Zanzibar White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa is a secluded retreat where tradition, sustainability, and mindful luxury come together in perfect harmony

Located on the southeastern shores of Zanzibar in Paje, Zanzibar White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa is more than a resort – it is a family-built luxury retreat rooted in nature, community, and a deep respect for the island’s heritage.

Founded by the Niznik family, the resort was born from a personal journey and a genuine connection to the island. What began as a family’s desire to create a meaningful space has evolved into a boutique sanctuary that prioritises authenticity, environmental consciousness, and cultural integration.

Featuring 18 private villas elegantly designed to provide an unmatched sense of privacy, space, and comfort, guests can select from garden or beachfront villas, each enveloped by lush tropical gardens and offering up to 1,500 m² of private space.

The resort’s architecture and design draw inspiration from Swahili heritage, with soft, organic forms, coral stone walls, and thatched roofs, crafted to echo the surroundings. Every piece of wooden furniture and intricate carving across the resort is handcrafted by the resort’s in-house team of artisans, blending traditional techniques with contemporary design.

A strong connection to the local community is at the heart of Zanzibar White Sand. The majority of the resort team hails from nearby villages, with many team members having been with the property since its inception. Local artisans are integral to the resort’s character – crafting not only furniture and art but also handmade soaps and amenities using seaweed harvested locally. Through workshops and partnerships with local NGOs, the resort continues to support skill-building and small businesses across the region.

Sustainability is woven into every aspect of the resort’s operations. All garden villas are designed to be powered by solar energy, while single-use plastics have been eliminated, and the resort’s environmental footprint is carefully managed to preserve the purity of its beach and natural surroundings.

The culinary experience at White Sand is rooted in authenticity and sustainability. Herbs are sourced from the resort’s own gardens, while fruits, vegetables, and seafood are sourced from trusted local farmers and fishermen. This allows chefs to craft each meal with care and authenticity, reflecting the island’s rich culinary heritage.

The resort’s Senses Spa offers a holistic approach to wellbeing, rooted in natural healing that lead guests into a state of deep relaxation, all in a serene setting surrounded by lush greenery. Outdoors, guests can enjoy curated experiences such as immersive Swahili cooking classes, kitesurfing, and lagoon sailing aboard a custom ngalawa – a traditional canoe – exclusively made for Zanzibar White Sand.

Zanzibar White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa is a family’s tribute to an island they hold close to their hearts. For travellers seeking a stay rooted in culture, sustainability, and soul, it offers a sanctuary where the essence of Zanzibar is celebrated in every detail.
