Mauritius, a renowned jewel in the Indian Ocean, and one well acclaimed for its abundance in leisure, lifestyle and adventure opportunities for all, delivers on every postcard promise. I had seen the heralding call to visit and so upon arrival, I well appreciated having answered.

For my first ever opportunity to explore an island nation revered for its pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and lush landscapes, I looked forwardto a series of activities geared for the spirited adventurer and solid epicurean during a week-long visit to this iconic destination. And because the most important piece of any travel related puzzle for me lies with my choice of accommodations, it turned out to be an absolute gift to be transferred from the airport to a quaint yet opulent beachside haven, nestled on the Island’s east coast in the tranquil village of Poste Lafayette.

Hello from La Maison d’Été

Post a vibrant welcome, my eyes were drawn in by spaces that embody the island’s charm and tranquility. Think pastel colours of pinks and turquoise shades, furniture and fittings made up ofearthy textures of wood, stone, woven pieces on walls and inspired artwork, which all collide to immediately invoke a sense of relaxation at check in. La Maison d’Été, a part of the Newmark Hotels & Reserves portfolio, became an enchanting retreat, with the team readied up to offer an experience that transcends a typical vacation, and weaving its magic into my heart and that of other guests the hearts.

From the moment you step into La Maison d’Été, you’re enveloped in an atmosphere of serenity. The hotel’s design, inspired by traditional Mauritian architecture with a contemporary twist, seamlessly blends natural materials with clean lines and vibrant accents.  This creates a haven of understated elegance, reflecting the island’s laid-back yet sophisticated vibe. The open-air layout with full view of the ocean stretching out into the horizon, is a hallmark of tropical architecture, allowing the gentle sea breeze to permeate every corner while carrying with it the soothing sounds of the ocean.

The heart of La Maison d’Été lies in its personalized service. Whether it was guiding us on what experiences we could enjoy while on the island or simply sharing a friendly chat, the team’s dedication to creating memorable experiences was evident in every interaction.

Fine food choices

The culinary journey at La Maison d’Étéwas a feast for the senses, with the chef offering us a diverse range of delectable dishes, all of which showcased the island’s rich culinary heritage. Th pork ribs and herb encrusted lamb chops where a thing of culinary decadence, perfect on the palate and accompanied beautifully by tropical flavoured cocktails.

A beachfront restaurant provides a romantic setting for candlelit dinners, with the gentle sound of waves as your background music. Nestled amidst the tropical gardens lies the quaint main restaurant under thatch, which offers a more relaxed ambiance is to us, was perfect for leisurely lunches or casual dinners.
