Wilderness is delighted to announce the reopening of its iconic Mana Pools camps – Wilderness Chikwenya and Ruckomechi – for the 2025 safari season. Nestled within private concessions along the Zambezi River in the heart of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, both camps offer privileged access to one of Africa’s most pristine and biodiverse wilderness areas.
Now, to make travel to this remarkable region even more seamless, Wilderness has extended its popular Free Flying Zimbabwe offer. Travellers booking six nights across any combination of Hwange or Mana Pools Wilderness camps will enjoy a complimentary Wilderness Air flight between the two. Guests booking eight nights across camps in Livingstone, Hwange, and Mana Pools will receive complimentary flights covering the full route – from Victoria Falls to Hwange, Hwange to Mana Pools, and onward to either Harare or Victoria Falls. (Offer valid for new bookings only, for travel from April to 20 November 2025. T’s &C’s apply).

With the camps’ reopening, Mana Pools reveals new layers of its rich wildlife tapestry. Wilderness Ruckomechi and sister camp, Little Ruckomechi remain standouts, regularly offering exhilarating sightings of lion, leopard and wild dog– a reflection of the area’s extraordinary diversity. Meanwhile, Chikwenya continues to enchant with its thriving game populations, abundant birdlife, and the majestic presence of elephant herds. The exclusivity of their private settings ensures uninterrupted safari experiences, with a range of land and river-based activities – from walking safaris and boat cruises to peaceful catch-and-release fishing.
“Mana Pools reveals its magic in different ways every season – whether it’s dazzling interactions at the carmine bee-eater colony or an increase in thrilling predator drama”, said Dean Morton, Wilderness Zambezi Managing Director. “At Chikwenya and Ruckomechi, we’re able to offer guests captivating experiences in nature, while safeguarding these precious landscapes through conservation-focused tourism. Our private concessions are at the heart of this promise – delivering both intimacy and impact”.

Wilderness Chikwenya is home to seven elegantly designed tented suites, including two family units, shaded by a canopy of albida and mahogany trees. Overlooking the Zambezi River and distant Ruckomechi Hills, the camp is a haven for photographers and nature lovers alike. Guests can enjoy river cruises, serene picnics on Chikwenya Island, and extended sundowner excursions with the addition of a second boat this season.
At Wilderness Ruckomechi, 10 spacious en-suite tents – including two family units – are set beneath a grove of albida trees near a favoured elephant crossing. Signature touches such as a riverside pool, fire deck under the stars, open-air “bath with a view”, and the elevated Star Bed at Parachute Pan all contribute to an unforgettable stay. For those seeking added privacy, Little Ruckomechi provides an exclusive escape with three beautifully appointed tented suites, ideal for families or small groups.
Beyond delivering world-class safari experiences, Wilderness continues to invest in community upliftment through its flagship Impact programme, Children in the Wilderness (CITW). In collaboration with the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, Eco-Clubs are run at eight partner schools in the Hurungwe District neighbouring Mana Pools. These clubs engage more than 250 learners in weekly environmental education, led by trained Eco-Mentors and supported by dedicated learning resources.

“These young learners are the future guardians of our wild places”, added Dean. “By fostering their connection to nature, we’re nurturing the next generation of conservation champions”. With their unrivalled setting, exceptional wildlife encounters, exclusive private access and meaningful community impact, Wilderness Chikwenya and Ruckomechi stand ready to welcome guests back for another unforgettable safari season in Mana Pools.
